Japan 5 - Kyoto Shrines and Bowls

Other memories include waiting in queue for about an hour in the rain for some really good ramen.  Not much English spoken but no need, order on a kiosk, pay on a kiosk (Visa taken), hand the ticket over and enjoy.   Used camera prices were much cheaper in Kyoto but the selection was smaller.  The train system was not as robust so more taxis taken here.  The no tipping culture in Japan is FABULOUS, eat, pay, go or in a taxi just pay and get out.  No calculating in your head.

Making our own bowls, choosing colors and getting messy.  This was fun.

In 3 months they will be shipped to AZ, I think S is pleased with his bowl

Symbols are not the meaning

As crowded as any place we visited

Our Kyoto guild, Etsuko, she was fabulous, first stop is Nanzenji Buddhist Temple

Good boys can step over what evil can not, at the Nanzenji gate house

Climb steep staircases up the gate house

What a view

Like in Hawaii, the people in Kyoto often use mountain or ocean side as a description for location.

I love all these gutters in Japan moving what looks like pretty clean water

Typical sleeping area with a welcome sign on the far wall

Lion is power

Most Shrines required socks or bare feet

The Suirokaku Aqueduct in the same complex and built well after this shrine offers a juxtaposition of old and new and is often used  in Japanese TV and movies
